ORANGE LAKE
Orange Lake covers about 12,550 acres across Alachua and Marion counties, combining extremely shallow water with pads, hydrilla, marsh edges and other vegetation that define both the fishing and the way anglers move around the lake. Largemouth Bass are the headline fishery, with FWC TrophyCatch history and special management rules reinforcing Orange Lake's reputation for trophy fish. Black Crappie, Bluegill and Redear Sunfish add strong panfish options throughout the year. Because the lake averages only about 5.5 feet deep, water level can change practical access quickly. Current FWC launch and navigation warnings are an important part of trip planning: Heagy-Burry is the currently usable public launch, while low water can block other facilities and routes. Orange Lake is a distinctive Florida grass-fishing destination where checking access conditions is part of planning the trip.
