SAM RAYBURN RESERVOIR

Angelina, Jasper, Nacogdoches, Sabine, San Augustine Counties, TX
Sam Rayburn Reservoir, Texas: Bass, Crappie, Catfish & Big East Texas Water

Sam Rayburn Reservoir covers roughly 114,500 acres in East Texas, making it one of the largest and most important fishing lakes in the state. Largemouth Bass are the headline attraction, supported by vegetation, creek systems, timber and a broad upper-to-lower water-clarity gradient. Crappie and catfish provide strong year-round alternatives, while White Bass add another seasonal target. The reservoir’s enormous footprint makes launch selection a practical part of every trip, especially when lake levels are low. TPWD lists 20 motorized launch sites; road-level location guidance and current low-water cautions make it easier to choose the right launch for present conditions. Rayburn rewards anglers who plan by section of the lake rather than treating more than 100,000 acres as one uniform fishery.
